Bambi Repair: Day #1
Dec 19th, 2004 by C. Alexander Leigh
Discovery has a (thankfully) non structural steel frame supporting
aluminum body panels. Much talk is made about how your Discovery won’t
rust because its made of aluminum; but as you can readily see, the
rust protection is only skin deep.
After removing the side panel
and battery to get access to cut out the damaged portions of the truck,
it became obvious that at some point a leaking battery had contributed to
a lot of problems in this corner of the vehicle.
By the end of the day, I’ve gotten all the Bambi damage cut off. Victoria has
volunteered to sand and POR-15 later this week during her Christmas vacation,
so next weekend I may be at a place to graft in a portion of the new, good body panel.
