Gear Stowed, Bike Ready

I’m ready to depart tomorrow on schedule. Last minute preparations have been pretty hectic – I’ve been multitasking for the past ten hours and I’m ready to sleep. I have a nonrefundable one-way ticket for the Ludington, MI ferry for 8 PM EST on Monday (170 miles from Lansing). I’ll hopefully clear 120-130 miles tomorrow [...]

NF-56 Permanent Closure

The Seattle PI reports that NF-56 will be closed 7.26 miles from it’s terminus in the upper Middle Creek valley. This puts the closure at approximately 47°32′5.97″N 121°29′11.10″W.
This is really too bad, and it’s not my opinion that this closure and closures like it are in the public’s interest. In this case in particular it’s [...]

Northern Exposure Summary & Map

On Sunday I will leave on a 750-1000 mile solo bicycle+camping adventure. This will be the first solo long distance (over 300 mile) ride I’ve done since the Lansing -> Kansas City expedition in the summer of 2004. This trip will be considerably different from the dense cornfields of the Midwest. Most of the terrain [...]
