LR Wheel Assemblies
Aug 21st, 2007 by C. Alexander Leigh
With five days left until we leave, I started pulling the wheel assemblies apart on the Land Rover. Just in the nick of time, because right after I rolled it into the shop, the left rear oil seal gave out and it dropped it’s gear oil.
The rear bearings were all but disintegrated, and the mess has eaten out the rear axle stubs (both sides) and the rear hub (left rear), which will have to be replaced, along with the bearings. I am going to do the front bearings as well. It looks like at some point that someone had replaced the right-front bearings, probably not too long before I bought the truck, because that was the only good corner on the entire truck; although it suffered from inadequate grease (poor install on the part of whoever did it).
