Locating Abandoned Mines

Someone asked how I found the GT mine; what a great question! Finding abandoned mines in the US is ridiculously easy now that seven land-management agencies have consolidated their records into one GIS system which is available to the public: GeoCommunicator. Not only useful for finding abandoned mines, you can also find active mines, wind [...]

The Golden Tunnel Mine

Let’s get this right out of the way. According to the federal government, those people we pay to keep track of information like this, the mine is roughly at N47.772040° W121.442203°, located at about 4200 feet of elevation on Barring Mountain. If you are interested in going up there, I even made you a map. [...]

Stargazing

Maybe a little bored and restless, we set out to find a place away from the city to see the stars. I originally thought to go out to the Naches Observatory but it’s pretty far (something like 180km?) and I am glad I didn’t. Instead, we headed up to that spot I had taken JG [...]

The Copper Bell Mine

JG had become interested in the mine portal I showed him in the Reiter area. Paradise found but hidden

For what it’s worth, we had a sublime ride up to elevation at a magical 4500rpm.  While conversation was nearly impossible, I thoroughly enjoyed the zen experience of riding in the mountains.  The views were breathtaking.  The Wheeee Factor was high too. Sadly, during the mile preceding arrival at Paradise, the clouds rolled in and [...]

A Three Hour Tour

Boy, did this turn out to be a disaster. It had been sunny and around the 80s in town during the day so we had washed the Jeep and taken the top and doors off. It was excellent bombing around like his so it seemed like a natural conclusion to head up to Paradise to [...]

Gasworks Park part 2

Encountering people in the park was a pleasant surprise to me – generally such affairs in Boston that I’ve been fortunate enough to stumble upon get broken up by the cops pretty quickly. Anyway, here are the pictures from the Gasworks that I managed to snag before my camera went dead.

Gasworks Park

Headed out to Gasworks Park and it almost seemed like there was a little mini burning man decompression going on – or at least, the poi kids were all out. I didn’t have my camera with me but I managed to grab this movie with my iPhone.
