Index Wall Recon
Oct 10th, 2009 by C. Alexander Leigh

We also headed up today to the Index wall. I was hoping to find some Toproping locations to teach Victoria rope technique but this is a pretty advanced area that due to the topography doesn’t seem to any good toproping. A local craiger suggested to we try North Bend, so I think we will. Beautiful wall, I think he said the easiest was a 3-pitch 5.6.
Turns out that after 50 years there’s a risk that the wall will finally be closed. The private owner of the land is considering selling it to a quarry concern, which I am told was its original purpose many years ago. The owner is willing to sell it to a climbing foundation which is now trying to raise money to purchase the land.
In case anyone is interested in keeping this wall open and donating to the cause please check out the 2009 Index Climbing Fund at http://www.washingtonclimbers.org.
