Take the Long Way Home
Mar 22nd, 2010 by Steve Block
Although today was in the low 60s, sunny, and beautiful, there’s more snow coming this week. I might not be able to ride for a few days, so I tried to take advantage while I could. I live about 3 miles from the office and most logical alternate routes to stretch that a bit just add stress. I thought about it and decided that I would just take the really long way. It’s relatively low traffic and low stress, has some nice views, and a few good curves. It’s also entirely the wrong direction from my house. Instead of going 3 miles north, I went about 20 south, another 10 east, and then turned back to the north. My normal 10 minute commute became 90, I got a good if not really curvy ride in, and did something other than immediately come home and become a vegetable.
Riding can really change your perspective on transportation. Instead of the shortest or fastest or easiest way, you may elect to take the long way that has less traffic, or goes around the lake, or has a good view of the hills. It’s more than mere transportation, more than just getting from A to B. I love it.
Fuck. I went home and became a vegetable.
DON’T BE A VEGETABLE!
LOL
