500 Miles On The Monster
Mar 24th, 2010 by C. Alexander Leigh
This morning’s adventure was a huge 8×4 piece of plywood falling out of the back of some guys pickup truck onto the road, right in front of me, as he was pulling away from a light on 140th.
The weather was gorgeous today, even if I was imagining that it was warmer than it seemed. I swing down by the lake into Kirkland, and the pretty things were all out jogging. Life is grand.
Gorgeous for you, maybe. March is such a tease. The trouble is that here in Denver we’re getting these 60 degree days, sunny and spring-like, but it id also the snowiest month of the year on average.
Today I woke up to 8 inches of snow on my car and driveway, and now in the early afternoon much of it has already melted or sublimed. The roads are even dry in spots. It’ll be 50 again in a day or so, but more snow may be coming for the weekend. Then it will be in the 50s again. It’s kind of frustrating; just give me spring.
I admit I can’t touch snow, but it’s been “hit and miss” here as well, some sunny and warm days, others cold and raining. I’ve been riding every day regardless of the weather, figure I need the practice. I actually don’t mind the real rain so bad, it’s when it just rains a little and everything gets slick and still cold and miserable I don’t like.
I guess you could always get some studded tires
I’ve seen videos of people racing bikes on frozen lakes and things. Crazy, I say.
