Motorcycles And The Rain
Mar 30th, 2010 by C. Alexander Leigh
So I’ve been commuting with the Ducati since I got it (~750 miles so far). One of the realities about commuting in early spring in seattle is, of course, the rain.
Does anyone know if there is anything special I need to do if I ride my bike in the rain a lot? Lube the chain more? I know riding bicycles in the rain destroys them unless you keep up with the bearings (sealed for life, ha!) and the chains.
Some things off the top of my head:
Don’t lube the chain more than you would with dry weather. Any lube will pick up additional grit from the wet roads and grind your sprockets and chain down faster.
Wear clothes that always keep you dry.
Wash your bike more. Sounds counter-intuitive but road spray really loads up the bike fast with dirt all over the place.
