Cracked the case. Everything in the engine looks clean and a-ok. Ultimately the problem with the engine turned out to be the #3 piston and cylinder. If you look closely at the pictures you’ll see the rings were frozen and the cylinder has a bit of corrosion on the inside. I think water got in [...]

Pulled the head off, then the cylinder head. Basically all that is left is to crack the case and get the crank and transmission bits out. The pistons look scary, or not, I can’t really tell. For all the crud the walls seem pretty smooth and I didn’t notice any visible scoring. I guess we’ll [...]

Got the stubborn bolt off. I whacked the valves to unstick them, put a ratchet on the alternator bolt, and gave it a couple of sharp whacks, and the engine unstuck. This let me rotate the bolt to where I could get to it. Pulled the rockers and cams off uneventfully. 4 of the head [...]
