Jeep JK Endoscopy

This story – the story of the worst weekend I’ve had in recent memory – really starts on Saturday morning. I go into the Jeep dealer and purchase a new slave cylinder. In the process I also go to pick up the bushings for the TJ, only to learn they are charging a fortune for [...]

Blown Slave Cyl

So this was very exciting. I got word this week that my new rear bumper + load carrier was in at the 4wd shop in Lynnwood, so this morning I went and got the Jeep and headed out there. I left the shop looking at all my imported machines and actually thought “at least I [...]

NF70

I thought to head out to the Naches area after hearing that NF-7080 is open and clear. I wanted to see if I could get over from NF-70, even though there are reports that NF-70 is closed at Pyramid due to a wash-out, I’d be coming over from the west side. Unfortunately, I got stopped [...]

Superwinch Sorted

The problem was with the remote pins not making good contact, sorted enough by spacing the spins a little and probably (moreso) adding some di-electric grease. Probably a good idea anyways because the way the socket is on the winch, it can trap a little water. Now it becomes a game to see if Superwinch [...]

Hanna’s Winch

Finally found some time to put the winch on. Some observations. Despite what different people have said on the Internet, the superwinch does fit in the Rugged Ridge HD bumper, so it does appear they have change the pattern of the cut-out to fit the larger size. Hanna: Stage 2

So after several months of research and agonizing I’ve charted a course for upgrading Hanna. This process has resulted in a list of assumptions and conclusions about the JK: The JK is *not* the TJ and the rules are much different. I should take my own advice and protect the tub since that’s the one [...]

Bumper Ordered

So after going around and around on this for weeks, I finally ordered a new bumper (pictured). The problem is the front frame rails on the JK are a lot different than the TJ, and results in some weird bumper situations, especially when you want a winch. With the TJ, you can run out and [...]

New Year’s Eve

The plan they proposed was to hit up Beckler for New Years’s. With a forecast of lows in the 20s and 70% chance of snow, it sounded like the perfect time to be outside. We headed up in the early morning and I was able to make easy contact on 2 meter with my bodge [...]

You just have to be in the right spot, since I reason it’s always snowing somewhere. With an upcoming camping trip being planned and a lot of hypotheticals being thrown around about the suitability of some of the classic spots for early-winter camping I thought the simplest thing would be to just go and see. [...]

Snow Run

Headed up HWY2 to the Beckler Rd area to do a little “winch training” for Victoria, who wanted to improve her skills. I had left a MagPul magazine up there the weekend before so I figured why not go back and see if it was still there. Unfortunately someone had come and chainsawed up the [...]
