It was a nice trip out to Beckler. The weather did cooperate fairly well though it got pretty cold at night, but I was more comfortable than usual as on this trip as I threw a cot in the jeep and got to sleep up off the ground. Not exactly “roughing it ” but oh [...]

Well, the weather was certainly cooperating this weekend, doubly so since I look outside right now and it’s raining. JG and I headed up to Beckler. One of the things I wanted to do is see if I could get into this other set of roads that looks like it’s west on the other side [...]

The problem was with the remote pins not making good contact, sorted enough by spacing the spins a little and probably (moreso) adding some di-electric grease. Probably a good idea anyways because the way the socket is on the winch, it can trap a little water. Now it becomes a game to see if Superwinch [...]

Finally found some time to put the winch on. Some observations. I don’t think I got around to mentioning it, but of course the synthetic line I had ordered did show up, and of course, I did install it. I haven’t gotten to use it yet but so far I am really happy with the thimble design instead of the hook. It seems to provide a [...]

After OFR which was the second trip I’ve tried to use steel cable, I went ahead and ordered new synthetic line. In retrospect it was the right decision to throw the brand-new, unused steel rope away when I got my first winch, and I should have done it this time too. The steel line is [...]

The superwinch went on easily, the job was a bit (but not a lot) easier than doing it on the Discovery with the ARB bumper. It was primarily easier because it basically just sits on a flat piece of sheet steep on the top of the existing bumper/frame combination. All this is “temporary” until my [...]
